The Gold Hive started as a renovation blog in 2014 which means I’ve been documenting the slow restoration of this house for over a decade(!). If you’re new, welcome! The archive is at thegoldhive.com and the House Tour will get you up to speed.

I’m on Substack for a simpler reason: some people live here and not on blogs, and I’d rather meet them where they are. I plan to post mostly the same content like Weekly Roundups and project posts. But I like that Substack invites a little more short form writing. I think my sweet spot is somewhere in between a lengthy blog post and a brief Instagram caption. Substack feels just right.

If you want to know what I’m about: I’m a chronic researcher and studio art graduate who has been slowly restoring a century-old house in San Diego for over a decade and is now raising two girls in it. I have strong opinions about wallpaper, cabinet hardware, and not recommending things I don’t actually use. I shoot on 35mm film. I’m a proud outfit repeater and go to bed early.
